I love many of Robin McKinley's books, most recently Chalice. Couldn't get past the first 50 pages of Dragonhaven. Her retold fairy tales are my favorites.
Pegasus is good. I nearly gave up on it many times because there isn't any action, to speak of. Much of what happens happens off-camera. Reports of battles, history described only in journal entries after the fact, etc. But the characters are awesome and the world-building first rate.
I would have liked it a whole lot better if I had known that there is going to be a sequel to finish the story. It sort of ends like this:
Stuff
Stuff
50 pages of angst
VERY BAD STUFF
The end
I could't believe it. Had no idea it was only half the story. Anyway, you should read it. You'll like it!
