She posted this hilarious snippet of a Naruto fic she's working on, and so I'm going to post a snippet of an Avatar fic that I had forgotten I was writing until I found it last night in my English notebook.  I'll post exactly what I have, and then you can tell me if I should keep going, I suppose.  I'm a little apprehensive now, though, because I'm afraid that if I were to actually finish it and post it in the next few days, I would get all sorts of "oh no this is what really happens" comments, even if I said PLEASE DON'T SPOIL ME, and so I might never finish it.  Plus it'll be AU very soon, and that puts a damper on my desire to finish it.

Oh well...

I have to do this.”

“Not alone.”

“Yes—”

“No!  We've made it this far—”

“Yes.  You've helped me get this far.  And you're the last one.”  A brush, hand on cheek.  “You'll always be first, though.”  A whisper.

“I won't let you go on alone.  I—”

A kiss.

“Katara,” a smile, “you have to let go.”

She wandered through the halls of the empty Fire Nation palace.  She was hopelessly lost; she couldn’t hear the sounds of battle that must be going on outside the walls.  She was supposed to be out there, finding her brother and helping the surge, but somewhere deep in the palace’s bowels was another battle, a desperate battle, and she was loathe to leave it.  And so she wandered the halls, staring past its immaculate hangings, yearning to see—something.  Anything.

She rounded the corner.  Well.  Not anything.

To be fair, he looked just as surprised as she did, but the world wasn’t being fair today and no one cared what she said or thought.  “What are you doing here?”

He blinked.  “Shouldn’t you be—”

“Don’t tell me what you think I should be doing!”

“I—”

“You what.”  She glared at him, her fist clenched around her water bag.  He closed his mouth and turned around.  “What, running away?  You coward.”

“Maybe I am,” he said, his voice soft, hard to hear.

“Oh, so you’re admitting it now?  What about your precious honor?”

“My honor is gone.”

“Then come and get it back.”  She popped off the cork on her flask.  Coward.”

His shoulders were stiff, his head bowed, but the moment she snapped out her water whip he turned and fired a jet of flame.  She countered it with her whip, a crack of steam clouding the air between them.  He blasted through it with another slim flame, which she dodged, already launching an offensive of her own.

and...it ends with her beating her fists against his chest while he holds her while the world falls down.  Or something like that.

Meh.  *wanders off to write Earth King/Mai NaNo*
