Diana Wynne Jones

has passed away.

magical funeral party in her honor in the comments.

(for the record, even beyond all of the amazing books she read [as if that isn't enough!], as Quark just reminded me, DWJ is the reason we know and love MWT.)

(man I am SAD.)

I've never read any of hers. Is there one (or some) that you would recommend?

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, all of her books are excellent. People usually talk about Howl's Moving Castle as their go-to one, but I also love the Dalemark Quartet, and the Chrestomanci books, and I thought Fire and Hemlock was wonderful. There are others of hers that I need to read, but those are the big starters.

also, if you ever run across her in a short story anthology, you will enjoy yourself.

:( I've never read any of hers, but when I'm at the library, I'm always shelving her books which means people are always checking them out.

Sad day.

This is totally how I felt when Brian Jacques died

they're wonderful! GET THEE TO THEM NOW.

well, I knew this one was coming, I'm just sad it actually arrived. Lloyd Alexander (http://jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com/43963.html) hit me harder.

I WILL. Once I pay off my overdue fees...oops.

:( Also, literary death that hit me the hardest: Shel Silverstein. I actually cried. I was 11.

I... just started Fire and Hemlock today. Although I am having weird flashbacks to reading it before; I am positive I remember previously reading that part about washing Polly's hair. (Gross.)

SO SAD. Just - so sad.

I googled her name and just realised she was the woman who wrote Howl's Moving Castle, the book, not the movie. I kind of feel bad now that I didn't pick one of her books while she was alive since I enjoyed the movie so much. Next time I go book shopping, I'm picking up a copy of Howl's Moving Castle for her!
