ewww, Wuthering Heights.

ewww, Heathcliff.

*runs away*

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, pretty much. Finished the book, and the only characters I like are Cathy Linton and Hareton. And Nelly, when I'm not slightly peeved with her.

[identity profile] emmaco.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think it might be a more attractive book when you're in your mid-teens. I loved Robin Brande's reaction at 15 - very funny :)

PS: you're very organised! I'm still proud of myself for writing down books for the month!

[identity profile] philia-fan.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the link, Emma, I enjoyed reading that, too!

Yeah, I never liked Heathcliff or Cathy. When it comes to the Brontes, give me Charlotte any time.

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
1) Well, I stole the idea from someone else. But it'll be good, because I'm constantly forgetting what I've read/seen. D:

2) Her grown-up reaction was exactly mine. Cathy Linton/Heathcliff/Earnshaw rocks my socks and was pretty much the only character I liked consistently. Thanks for the link, Emma!
Now, one of these days I'll get around to Jane Eyre...

Now, one of these days I'll get around to Jane Eyre...

I love love love Jane Eyre--just think Wuthering Heights in reverse and you're good.

[identity profile] willow-41z.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Jane Eyre is GOOD. I like it even better than Austen.

[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I read Jane Eyre for the first time last year. And while I liked it very, very much I still like Austen better. But I was amazed at how readable I found Jane Eyre.

[identity profile] fathomlesssky.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think it might be a more attractive book when you're in your mid-teens.

I'm actually at my mid-teens right now and was at my mid-teens when I first read Wuthering Heights, so I dunno. And the link was very entertaining, because it sounds EXACTLY like what my best friend described to me when SHE first read the book... *shudders*

The only redeeming part of that book, to me, was the bit of Hareton/Cathy Linton in the end. (But then my friend just reminded me of the fact that they're first cousins during math...)

[identity profile] emmaco.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should have said: if you're going to like it, you're more likely to during your teen years :)

[identity profile] beautyinsleep.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Pride and Prejudice, as always, is love.

You've watched some Firefly? How do you like it? Have you seen the episode that your icon comes from? Heehee...

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I watched the whole series last summer, although I haven't watched Serenity and I keep meaning to and keep not having a chance to. But I, uh, love it.

And I do love the Special Hell one, but I must admit that this one is my favorite. If I'm right, it comes from "Heart of Gold." The second I saw Inara crying I knew I had to have an icon of it--she's just so beautiful, and so sad. So sad. It broke my heart. So I spent hours and hours looking for the icon, and then I found it! :-D

[identity profile] beautyinsleep.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Heck yeah! Serenity's pretty awesome. This show is pretty awesome. I can't believe it was canceled after only one season.

Oh my gosh, that whole episode (but especially that scene) is heartwrenching. (Inara reminded me of Thaddeus, actually.) I do love that icon. It's very powerful.

Oh, I was meaning to ask you...do you have any idea when Avatar's going to start up again?

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Space and cowboys! WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE HUH.

I know! (Yeah, except she's much calmer.) :-D

NO FREAKING CLUE. *sulks*

[identity profile] emerald-happy.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
oh i totally agree!

Serenity is *insert spoilers spoilers spoilers* but Firefly is better

[identity profile] philia-fan.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I just read the graphic novel that's supposed to go between Firefly and Serenity, and it did make the movie make a lot more sense.

[identity profile] willow-41z.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... um, your icon appears do be some sort of... lobster? In therapy? Definitely not Inara. :p

[identity profile] willow-41z.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Also WATCH SERENITY!!!!! I would say it might give you nightmares but I think your scare tolerance is higher than mine. And if the series didn't disturb you the movie probably won't.

[identity profile] styromgalleries.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh! You included theatre, too. That's awesome!

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
well, I keep going to shows and concerts when I'm here, I might as well remember them...

[identity profile] appellations.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
darjeeling limited! if I remember correctly. Didn't you mention watching it?

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I did, but that was in December. THIS IS A FRESH START however I feel like I'm already forgetting something D:

[identity profile] appellations.livejournal.com 2008-02-02 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
oh CRAP has it been so long already! omg WHERE IS TIME FLYING TO.

*wants to watch Sweeney Todd* it comes out next week though.

[identity profile] jyms.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
very good choices so far (: Wuthering Heights just blows the mind. in a good way. (but to be honest, i got really confused about the Catherines)

[identity profile] peggy-2.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
yay for you! I would've listed each of the Pullman books separately, to make the list longer. Don't forget to list books you read for class.

I'm doing the same thing, except I'm keeping a running log Private, then extracting the month and posting. We'll see if I remember to keep it up. It's fun to look back on.

(I'm really liking Plain White T's, which I ended up getting b/c of your squees. I might need to get another CD)

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, the list is probably going to be only things I read for class, at least for this semester. But on the bright side, I'm reading things for class!

Ooh, that sounds like fun. I might pull this back up every now and then (aside from updating it, of course)! Also, my seminar from last semester has a group that's getting together and watching movies every week, so I'll have lots and lots to write about. :-D

(yay! XD)

[identity profile] mysteree80.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, Wuthering Heights is such a mess. That being said, it did inspire an awesome song by Kate Bush, so that's cool.

What did you think of the Pullman trilogy? I haven't read them, but I know my parents are fond of the first one, but not so much the others.

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2008-02-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
At least it had a happy ending. I was excited.

That's pretty much how I feel. The first one is really, really good. The second one's okay, and the third one has a bunch of good things but even more bad things. Like the third one, for every time I went "oh, that's a really good scene," I had two or three times when I went "NO PHILIP PULLMAN STOP BEING A PEDAGOGUE." If that's the right use of that world. Anyway, he made my head hurt because he was beating it over with his crappy misinterpretations and moralizing of everything.

[identity profile] buella-pearl.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I too read Wuthering Heights just finished it the other day. I feel as if I must be the only person ever to like it. But I liked it far more earlier on the whole older Catherine, Heathcliff relationship. Then I guess once my affections are gained they are not easily lost.

[identity profile] willow-41z.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I note that your year has been much more intellectual than mine! I need to watch more artsy movies and go to shows and stuff. My school does mostly "avant-garde" weird stuff, though. But I did see an awesome performance of Twelfth Night in freshman year!

You read Deerskin? What did you think? (Have I asked you this before?) I read the first chapter or two when I was in middle school, or so, and I was frightened of men for at least a month afterwards. O_O

[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Hope y'all don't mind my butting in, but I read Deerskin a couple of years ago and liked it a lot. And I'm the biggest wimp about scary/gross/brutal things, especially when they involve children. As long as you know, going in, that there are unpleasant scenes and grimness, you should be ok. It has one of my all-time favorite princes in it. So, you don't need to be frightened of ALL men, just one.

[identity profile] styromgalleries.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Aw! I just posted my list, too, Fun stuff!

P.S. You hadn't seen "Braveheart" until this year? Wow. I love that movie! It always makes me happy to be Scottish!! And Mel Gibson's eyes are so deliciously blue in that movie. And amazing accents abound!
