So my dear friend [profile] penguinkye is working as an intern at The Horn Book this summer, and she recently got a gig writing an article about fanfiction.  As a member of fandom herself, I trust her to write a good article that's not as tinged with "these people are weirdoes with too much time on their hands/no life/etc." and "I don't really know that much about the world of the internet as people who actually live in it do and so I will sound befuddled a lot of the time" as other articles I've seen on the subject have been.

That being said, she wants input from actual fanfic writers, and I know I have several talented (and popular, if y'all don't mind my saying) fanfic writers on my flist.  So please, take a moment and write a comment or send an email to her with your input.  It will be greatly appreciated.  :-)

Well, Roger's official word is, "Good. Keep working," so here are some follow-up questions for all of you regarding fanfic & kid lit.

(1) Do you read fanfiction? Do you write it?

(2) Are you or have you been in fandoms for children's or YA books? What are they (including Harry Potter :P)?

(3) Are you in any fandoms that aren't for children's or YA books? (And, what!)

(4) How old were you when you first got into fanfiction? If you quit reading/writing fic, how old were you when you quit?

(5) Do you tend to read pairings fic or gen fic?

(6) If you read pairings fic, do you read slash, het, or both?

(7) Do you read fic that is more mature in its content than the canon/source material?

(8) Why do you read fanfic?

(9) Why do you write it?

Additional comments are welcome! It is all for a good cause, and anything you can say will help me write a truer and more honest representation of fandom for a pretty big audience of people who mostly don't participate in it. If you prefer not to comment in semi-public, you can email me your responses at etvulpesvelox@gmail.com. Also feel free to pimp this out to your flists, including the email address--the more the merrier, and the better the data.

I appreciate all of your help, you guys, and I will keep you updated on how this thing works out!
