I don't watch enough TV to know what commercials are on, but I've youtubed the "HFCS is cool in moderation!" commercials and they are inane. I dunno if there was an "HFCS is the devil" campaign, but there should be, because it is.
Recently there was a publication that notes that some HFCS plants include a process that requires mercury, and sure enough, there are trace amounts of mercury in some HFCS. Not enough to matter, but if we're going to lie and twist things like the corn-lobbyists, why not.
Biochemically, the problem with HFCS is that it doesn't satisfy hunger the way real fructose/sucrose does. Infrastructurally, it sucks because it screws with the price and quality of corn (but that's only one part of that story...). Boo all around.
