See, I disagree, because they want you to keep the original in mind in order to see and fully appreciate what they're doing differently--if they wanted it to be COMPLETELY separate, they wouldn't've used Leonard Nimoy. But the whole bit where he's like, "In my universe, you knew your father growing up" and stuff--that deliberately reminds you that this is a different universe, but the old one still exists. So it makes for fascinating comparisons, and I do agree with everyone that they did a fantastic job of keeping it consistent within itself, but in the end, I want to go back to the old universe. *shrugs*
And yes, and it is made of racefail on the part of the studios and the casting directors and I'm not going to go see it. SORRY TO BE SUCH A DOWNER.
