also, if, as Yang-Chin says, Aang's not allowed to complete his spiritual journey as an Avatar, then why the heck should he get to have a romantic journey, either? I mean, speaking as a spiritual person, your spirit journey is supposed to be your number-one thing in life. And your other journeys in life are supposed to help you through that. So if he doesn't get to work on that...GAH BRAIN HURTS.
2) Things I liked:
Uh...I can't remember what I was going to say here. Also, why does Firefox think I just misspelled the word "what"?
3) Things that were weird:
Aang's scar = Gordian knot, the Rock = Alexander the Great. Y/N?
4) Zutara:
I forgot one thing. In my last post, I said this:
As I previously started, I respected Maiko for what it was. I could even maybe have dealt with it if it had been done better--my problem with Kataang was more fundamental than simply the way it was handled in the last few minutes--I actually was okay with the way it was done (aside from the part where it's just so wrong*), for reasons already stated.
and there was an asterisk, and I forgot to do the text that goes below the asterisk, which drives me CRAZY in real life, but anyway, here it is.
*potential fic idea: Katara and Zuko, like six months later, hanging out and chatting.
Katara: So, you and Mai, are you like...serious still?
Zuko: Yeah, well, we're together, and it's going good, I guess.
Katara: Yeah, so are you guys...*shrugs*
Zuko: Um...no. I guess I'm...kind of old-fashioned, or something. I dunno. It's just--I don't want to screw it up this time? And the timing doesn't feel right yet.
Katara: Oh, yeah, I get that.
Zuko: So...what about you and Aang?
Katara: Oh, yeah, we're doing fine, it's nice...
Zuko: Yeah, but what about...
Katara: Oh. Um. Well, y'know, Aang, he hasn't quite, y'know, um, well, uh, develop--
Zuko: Katara.
Katara: Zuko?
Zuko: You know what I said about the timing thing? With Mai? How it wasn't right?
Katara: Yeah?
Zuko: Well, I think it's right. Now, I mean. I mean not with Mai. I mean with you. I mean, uh--
Katara: Why on earth do you think that?
Zuko: Maybe it's because you've got your hand--and that outfit displays way more skin than--
Katara: *collars Zuko*
Zuko: --is strictly--
Katara: *starts necking him*
Zuko: --necessary?
*devolve into steamy Zutara smut tiemz*

That's exactly what I think. How weird. He probably hasn't even had "the talk" yet. I'm sure that wasn't too high up on the monks list for training the Avatar kid.

Date: 2008-07-21 08:27 pm (UTC)The kiss at the end wasn't exactly an OMG-makeout-and-touch-boobiez kiss. That was a first-kiss-could-this-really-work situation. Aang kissed Katara to end her confusion...it could have been like that!
Also; who do you know that has stayed with the person one dated when they were 14? Even 16?
And the chakra bit is more easily understood if you research Hinduism, along with Chinese reflexology. During the fight with Azula, his chakra energy was physically cut off by an injury. His scar rested right where the anahata chakra is located; the chakra of heart. That specific one is related to complex emotions, compassion, and love. When he just randomly got rammed into the rock (which I wager was Ozai thinking of breaking his spine), that physical restraint was broken and the pent-up chakra energy flowed forth.
Looking at the teachings of Hinduism, one's spiritual journey is a never ending path that only ends with moksha, which completely arrests the cycle of rebirth. You have to become one with all of the chakra flow within you. I don't really think a thirteen year old monk, even though he just saved the world, would have attained the state of spiritual oneness dictated by moksha.
That kiss at the end symbolized his transition from childhood to the rest of his life. He is no longer the free-spirit air bender of a year prior. He was able to seek and find the non-violent answer to the imbalance of the world (yet another Hindi teaching) and now, his journey to adulthood can start.
