So I'm watching the Alabama/Georgia gymnastics competition, and it turns out when you're watching the balance beam event you're not hearing the floor event music, but the music that the beam performer has picked to be in the background of her event.

So first I heard "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" by Elvis, and then "Come Monday" by Jimmy Buffet, "Sweet Melissa" by the Allman Brothers, and finally "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

:-D

Yay for being southern!!!

I always wondered about the music. If there's that much going on at the same time, I think it'd be sensory overload!!1! XD

Why oh why? Music with gymnastics, to me, doesn't work. They're not interpreting anything, they're doing rather impressive physical feats in a set routine that has nothing to do with music. I think I'll never understand the need for gymnasts to pretend they're dancers. (Of course, I'll never understand why they think bending one's knees at the end of a jump is a bad thing either.)

I think out of regional loyalty, I'm going to have to go listen to some Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Steely Dan, The Doors, and Santana soon. :)

oh, I'm totally with you; the fact that floor routines have nothing to do with the beat of the music that's accompanying them drives me CRAZY. Although today, during a floor routine, one girl started doing this strange slow-motion running thing...and the theme from Chariots of Fire started playing. So that was cute. But just having music as background noise while doing balance beam, for concentration or whatever, I understand.

Heeheehee. Now we're talking.

I would think that background music would be distracting. But then, I'm just the girl who got annoyed by gymnasts and skaters taking Ballet to improve their respective skills. Their horrible lines always made me cringe, and let's just say for the rest of us, Ballet was not something to take casually.

off-topic: occasionally qwantz does literary techniques comics. I think you'd find them all enjoyable, but perhaps the one I linked moreso. Here are some more. I don't think that list includes the last few days' worth, so maybe click back a few days (from today) through the archive too.

Hope you're having a nice day.
