It is nuts that there's really very little you can do about shoplifting, even if you see it. Footlocker's best deterrant a few years ago when I knew folks working there was the 300lb A&M starting linebacker informing you that "You got my shoe laces."
On the other hand, that's why I always carry a knife. Sometimes, you just NEED a knife. It opens packages, envelopes, and is useful for impromptu elective surgery.
