one about a song (since Quark complained about the last version, also since I only got like three replies to it), and one about books (partially in response to a post I mostly disagreed with but which still made me think, and partially because I've wanted to quantify this for a while)[Poll #1552096]I ask because my friends are of differing minds about this one.[Poll #1552097]

alas this is long.  I will finish it off with a link to a post on Azula I found fascinating and a comment about Zuko I found very right.

That is a fascinating piece of Azula meta. I'll be chewing that one over for a while.

wasn't it? I just loved everything it said. It's part of a larger debate that contains things I vehemently disagree with, and even the OP's opinion of Avatar as a whole is one I didn't see, but that meta was perfect.

Re: Comment about Zuko

I love it. So hard. And the story that accompanies it. And the comment below it.

also I read that Azula post, and while I agreed with most of it, her attitude of "girls liking frilly things is only conforming to stereotypes and therefore inferior to girls liking trucks and sports" really started to irritate me by the end.

there should def be more allowance made for girls who want to be like Ursa too, because that is also okay! however, when she initially made the point about relatives sending barbies because they don't know what else to send, I very much agreed with that childish frustration. BUT I WANTED MORE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKS THEY SENT ME THIS BARBIE LAAAAAAAAAAST YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR

Yes, I felt this way as well. Because what I think femimism should promote isn't women stepping away from womanly roles and succeecding in men's roles, but succeeding AS WOMEN, with their FEMININE characteristics. To say that having the feminine heronine beat the female villan who has rejected femininity is not a pro-feminist message was just confusing to me.

AND LET ME JUST SAY that I'm not saying that women can't or shouldn't step into men's roles if that is what they choose. I'm only saying that they shouldn't have to in order to be successful.

because I'm trying to figure out who everyone's favorite heroine/what their favorite series is, and if that's affected by age at which you read/order in which you read them

I ALMOST PUT THEM ON HERE BB but there wasn't room. I DID THINK OF YOU.
