I don't even remember how we got on the subject of this at work today but we did (I was protesting my manager playing Beethoven's 6th because I have the first movement like memorized and I don't find it particularly stimulating, and then I was playing the Maestoso from Saint-Saen's organ concerto which by the way the first time I heard it on the radio I nearly drove off the road because WHAT, WHAT*), and as I was going through YouTube clips I realized, man, like, half of Fantasia 2000 makes me cry. So, because I like music and stuff, I am sharing my two favorites with you. Man, thank you YouTube.

Those ducks look so sad EVERY TIME. And EVERY TIME I am sad for them. Also soprano solo at the end, ROCK IT.

I confess that I also have ties to this song because the last section of the Firebird Suite was the last thing we played at my last orchestra concert in high school. And the beginning of it is sooooooooooo weird, and you're like "what am I playing all these chromatics for I'm not even sure my instrument can do this" and then the lone horn solo wanders in on its own sweet time and you're like "well, that sounds vaguely melodic, okay" and then suddenly you turn the page and and BAM! BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM and it is glorious that's all.

okay okay time to write my Nietzsche paper. I AM SURE HE WOULD APPROVE OF MUSIC OVER PAPER-WRITING. Though he might not approve of the music well he'd maybe be a Stravinsky fan it's hard to OKAY OKAY I'M GOING NOW.

also I like to translate the words to the song into French because it sounds so sweet, but I am always afraid of the grammar
si j'ai les mots pour faire un jour pour toi
je le ferais d'espoir et de joie

I feel like "avoir" is wrong in the first part, thoughts?

Well thank you! I haven't seen Fantasia since I was 11 years old. That's been some time now. Yep, youngun, some time. It was nice to see some of it again.

The Firebird was one of the first ballets I saw and I fell in love with it when I was seven or eight. I love Fantasia in theory, but I have problems with it because the animation doesn't fit well enough for me. Too much of it goes for concept that just doesn't fit right (dancing hippos)or just isn't choreographed correctly (I don't know a better term for it, but that's my beef in a dancer's mindset). The worst offender by far is 2000's Rhapsody in Blue. That's a curved line, dammit, can't they hear it?

I really want to see all of Allegro Non Troppo though. It's like they really listened and matched image and quality of movement to the music instead of using the music as a soundtrack once they had a concept.

(Okay, enough of nitpicking at something you love. It's one of my ticks, and sometimes I just can't stop myself. My reaction to music is very physical.

Here, have some Bolero:
