okay actually just last week I was going all, "man this song is dumb, he's never coming back," and I hadn't really listened to the lyrics, and now tonight I am...well okay it's still not my favorite song, BUT IT MADE INGRID MICHAELSON REALLY HAPPY TO HEAR US SING IT, SO I GUESS THAT'S ALL RIGHT.
anyway Sunday Lovie was like, "aw man, tickets to Ingrid Michaelson, I should buy some! BUT WHO WILL COME WITH ME" and I, being a loyal music-loving roommate, said, "OF COURSE I WILL" thinking that the concert was on November Something.
So last night I was all ONOEZ BIG AUDITION (which turned out to be ohai, you can sing Messiah? Awesome here's your folder we'll get you a robe on Sunday, yay), and then I got home and was like PHEW, man I have Alistair fic to write, I can do that tomorrow night, right? Right?
Me: So, we don't have anything tomorrow night, do we?
Lovie: Um...the concert?
Me: ...it's on a Thursday night?
Lovie: ...
Me: ...OH WHY NOT.
SO after panicking and thinking we were going to be SO LATE OMG because CLEARLY THE CONCERT STARTED AT SEVEN and the bus was soooooooooo laaaaaaaaaaaate because traffic was soooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooooooooow this afternoon, we got there only to discover...a line that went from the door of the theatre to the road a block and a half away. "Well," I said, "maybe it's doors open at seven? Also what do we do about will call tickets?"
It turned out that if you had will call tickets, you could just...stroll right up...pick up your tickets...and walk in...and find yourself in the seventh row? Like, probably fifteen feet from the stage, max? Well. Cool.
And on the bus I had been all IT'S OKAY IF WE MISS THE OPENING ACT, WHO EVEN IS IT and Lovie was like GUGGENHEIM SOMETHING and I was like THAT SOUNDS FAMILIAR BUT WHO CARES.
And then these two attractive men came on stage, and one of them started to talk.
OMG, I squealwhispered to Lovie, IS HE FOREIGN.
not only were they foreign, they were IRISH, and AMAZING SINGERS, and the very first song included a lyric using the word "subliminally," and Reader, I was sold.
They are The Guggenheim Grotto and they are SO TALENTED, SO TALENTED the baritone especially but HOMG (I'm not doing links/looking at vidoes/listening at songs right now because I'm still letting it all sink in but those will be coming soon) and I am now the owner of their album happy the man which includes the song "fee da da dee," which they did all audience-participation style, and in which me and some girl behind me were rockin' some awesome harmonies, and it was just SO GOOD OMG.
so their setlist is all scrawled on my arm what does my arm even say
"2nd voice sexy baritone" (omg I don't know his name BUT I WILL, HIS VOICE, SO SEXY)
"toaster? told you so--world wild wicked and wild"
"hell I just want to scream" (er, that's not the name of the song, but omg it was such a fun song, and I just really REALLY LOVE DUET TEAMS)
"it's just not just" (aaaaaaaaaah so good)
leonard cohen story/"oh nikita" (see: 2nd voice sexy baritone)
"the universe is laughing" (this song was SO MUCH FUN and omg they are SO TALENTED)
the "adopt a highway" (it's POETRY ON A SIGN, "I've been trying to work it into a love song since 2006, it just doesn't work") song (which was v. v. sexy)
"creep" (Radiohead cover, which apparently Ingrid used to do but removed from her set for this tour, and they had decided to add it before finding this out, oooWEEEEEEooo)
"fee da da dee" (see: amazing)
"and now I" (I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH)
anyway now that's all written down so I can wash off my arm yay.
I HAVEN'T EVEN TALKED ABOUT INGRID YET OMG OMG OMG BUT BUT I HAVE TO SHOWER AND GO TO BED OMG I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING WHAT WAS I THINKING also her setlist is written on receipt paper/in that thing that comes with your checks so you can keep track of withdrawals or something (clearly I am so good at the money) so I can refer back to it and all the awesome things she did OMG SHE IS HILARIOUS AND YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS.
THE THINGS THAT WOMAN DOES WITH HER VOICE. I could just watch her shift from head voice to belting and back ALL. DAY. LONG. THE THINGS SHE DOES ON HER CDS, SHE DOES IN REAL LIFE, JUST FOR YOU. Also she covered Justin Bieber. For like five seconds. And dedicated a song to him. And her backup singers are amazing. And and and and and and and.
there was some sort of scary accident right outside afterwards, but we are okay. We also walked through sketchy Seattle to get to a bus stop (I swear this is the emptiest big downtown I've ever walked through at night), and we are okay. YOU CAN KNOW THAT WE WILL BE OKAY.
omg this concert managed to make me forget, like, this entire week. I am SO GLAD we went.
:-D
