Christmas present babbling
Dec. 27th, 2010 11:38 amGoose just finished Rebel Angels and now she is reading The Sweet Far Thing and she keeps asking me questions that just supports my suspicion that I need to reread that trilogy. Oops!
I showed the SyFy Alice to Quark and she liked it! I got to be ~*~mysterious~*~ and withhold information from her, which drives her crazy, because she likes to know she won't be disappointed and I don't believe in spoilers. THIS IS WHY WE ARE BEST FRIENDS: ULTIMATE COMPATIBILITY.
My parents got me a Lynne Truss book I already have for Christmas and then they got me Android Karenina, which looks like a fairly entertaining mashup, except that if I wanted to read something that long I'd, well, read a full book. This was my problem with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies--I just never quite got past chapter two, because it felt like if I was going to read it, I might as well read the original. So I can't even judge goodness or badness of the books, because I just...can't read them. I did get Middlemarch from them, an old Penguin Classics edition, which at least has the benefit of being comfortably familiar, if a little squatter than my tastes run. As my goal for next year is to switch between reading library books and then all the books I have in my apartment that I haven't already read, Middlemarch just made this five times more difficult, but that's okay, I need to hurry up and read it anyway.
man why don't my parents ever pick out new books for me to read that I haven't already read and look interesting first world problems also I didn't get a new Bible like I've kind of been asking for (because heaven knows there are lots of Bibles out there and I don't know which are the good ones p.s. NAB is awesome because it has footnotes but NRSV is awesome because it is pretty) and I thought I might be getting the P&P BBC miniseries but apparently not okay now you are just whining like an ungrateful whiny thing
GOOD THINGS THAT I GOT: Beauty and the Beast on DVD (MOM HOW DID YOU I DON'T EVEN), STAR WARS PANCAKE MOLDS, AND STAR WARS APRON, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail on DVD (yay! now we have a boy movie for Gingerbread to watch!) (it is not that Lovie and I don't like boy movies, it's just that boy movies are never on sale the way chick flicks are). Also for myself (and Malone because Books-a-Million was having the most awesome sale EVER) I bought Blood Countess and The King's Rose, both for $4 for the hardcover, and then I bought The Demon's Lexicon in paperback for $3 (sadly, Covenant, which I preferred, was not on sale, woe), so anyway I'm rereading DL now and it's fun because everything is so obvious and I ship Nick/Mae like burning so you know it's fun to read about her from his POV and all the little things he likes about her, inasmuch as Nick likes anything that doesn't involve massive amounts of violence. (Oh Nick. *sighs*)
Anyway let's see OH I also saw Tangled with my sisters, anyone want to discuss? I know Jak did over at her LJ. I should do that.
OH OH OH I FINISHED ARIEL'S CHRISTMAS PRESENT but I can't share it with y'all yet because she hasn't read it I am THE MOST IMPATIENT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN stupid houses with no internet. BUT I THINK IT TURNED OUT OKAY I mention this also because like I have two more plot bunnies alongside the two I still have to write alongside the OTHER two I still have to write and they are all Dragon Age fic. Anyway we haven't unlocked Office on this computer because I hate Office 2010 with a fiery passion and just want my Word 2007 or whatever installed. Whichever one doesn't involve those stupid tabs at the top. This might seem neurotic, but you know, some people have to have unlined paper, others have to have fancy pens, some people like their netbooks, I want my old Word back. IT'S PART OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS, OKAY. I WANT TIMES NEW ROMAN, SINGLE-SPACED, NO STUPID GAPS BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS, THAT IS ONLY FOR THE INTERNET.
oh my goodness, first world problems.
There has been a lot of Bailey's in my life over the past say half of a week, so...lakhen? saba? thīke? IT WOULD HELP IF I KNEW HOW TO SPELL THESE WORDS. I will be back to you with the proper spelling. I'm 90% sure it ends with "saba thīka hai." (Anyone on my flist speak Hindi? Anyone?) (Apparently the alphabet is really easy to learn?) (This is one of my goals in life.)
I think it is time for a new layout. Suggestions? Themes it would make you happy to see every time you wandered over to my journal? I'M TAKING THEM.

Date: 2010-12-28 03:55 am (UTC)and then I start thinking about how Disney Princess movies have evolved (http://jakia.livejournal.com/165343.html?thread=1213919#t1213919) and how Tangled fits into that (and man I haven't even TOUCHED the whole Disney Princess marketing thing but that plays a role as well), and, well, I guess I will just have to make a post about that.
YESSSSSSSSSS STAR WARS ON DVD I am glad you acquired it!

And I have the lovely pdf files of MWT's bonus short stories! :D

Nothing is immediately popping out at me for a layout idea, but I trust you to pick a good one. You always have the most awesome layout themes. :D
Back from oblivion
Date: 2011-03-02 06:37 am (UTC)Haven't commented here in forever. Just wanted to say in hindi it's "sab theek hai" (the "th" is pronounced like the American "t")
Btw, I'm just curious: why do you want to learn Hindi?
~mems~
Re: Back from oblivion
Date: 2011-03-03 06:24 am (UTC)Ooooooh is that how you transliterate it? My friend just only ever said it to us, so I was playing around with Google Translate looking for how to write it out. Thanks!
I don't know--it's got a different alphabet (I also studied Russian and it is fun to be able to sound out words even if I'm not 100% on what they mean), a very large number of people speak it, and learning it would also involve learning a bit of cultural perspective that is pretty far out from my normal one. I think all of these things sound awesome!
(the less inspirational answer: I would finally be able to understand all the Bollywood songs I sing along to without having any clue of what they're saying. :-b)
:-D
