I wasn't sure L'Engle was still alive, but Pavarotti was a much more recent beloved artist. I will miss them being here.

Jade, Mitali has a link on her blog to an old interview with M. L'Engle at Christianity Today. She was so very articulate and interesting that even this heathen enjoyed it, so I recommend.

Oooh, thanks for pointing me to that. Clearly I have to go reread all of her books now. I wonder how much of it I grasped when I was younger? (And she is amazingly articulate. I'm in love with her philosophy simply because of the way she dictates it. *surreptitiously stabs Descartes with a spoon*)

Jade, you'll appreciate this. When I read that bit about how if we heard all the voices speaking to us, it would be an unbearable cacophony, I thought of Amadeus, where Mozart talks about God hearing the world as an ever-increasing vocal ensemble, and how the composer's job was to turn the audience into God.

That's so sad. I just found out about Pavarotti from my Mom this morning (I've been out of the loop mentoring freshmen on campus all this past week) and I had no idea about Madeleine L'Engle. I really like her work. And, I have this great little book including things she has said about writing. She will be missed.
