sadly not by me, but still awesome.

I think I am avoiding posting about how my days have been going because, um, if I did I would have to start thinking about how I'm graduating, and then I would cry all over my laptop. So instead we are all being WEIRDLY MOODY and getting UPSET ABOUT RANDOM THINGS like HOW FLIPPING CASTLE/BECKETT IS BEATING PUCK/RACHEL HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY CHEMISTRY

as we were saying, Castle basically relies on the success of other shows (e.g. Bones and The Mentalist), which doesn't make it bad, but doesn't make it compelling to those who are fans of the other shows (especially if the other shows actually have chemistry, see Bones). Anyway vote for Zutara, etc. etc., show Usagi/Mamoru (Sailor Moon/Tuxedo Mask) some love because they are hurting. I think so far those are the only ones I'm really worried about (not that there aren't other ships in there that I love, but so far everyone is doing okay.)

(Having to pick between Mulan/Shang and Tiana/Naveen based on hotness is pretty cruel though. Both couples are pretty smoking.)

Anyway! On the subject of Puck/Rachel, which is my Glee OTP (although I am really fond of this Jesse/Rachel thing that's going on because Rachel just looks so happy. Also I am really fond of the last two episodes of Glee because, aside from Will, it's actually been...watchable). Ariel has been sending me links to fic as rewards for finishing my homework (one paper left!), and with a link to this one (haven't read yet, have to hang up Disney pictures first...and then probably, like, color more...), she sent me the following meta:

[note: this was clearly written while under the influence of lots of Puck's POV fic. Just sayin'.]

In other fanfic news, the other day I read a Puck/Tina fic. One of my authors recommended it and I was like what the heck sure. I find it interesting that the one quality that everyone seems to attribute to Puck, whether they be Puckleberry, Quick [really, Quinn/Puck shippers? or, better response, LIKE THEIR SEX LIFE], or Puck/Tina shippers is that Puck always lets the chick be who she really is when she's with him. Rachel is fuckin' crazy, Quinn is a self-righteous pregnant bitch, and Tina is well we're not as certain what Tina is as she's a side character on the show, but Puck definitely doesn't mind that she's all emo and shit. I just find that Puck having that quality to be intriguing since he's the biggest bully of the Gleeks on the show. Puck isn't known for his tolerance. But he did walk down the halls of school with Rachel on his arm that one week he and Berry were dating. And he did quit football for her. While Finn punked out (both in the football vs. glee thing and the glee yearbook photo thing) and Artie flat out told Tina she needed to change if they were going to be together. Well, I actually can't reflect on this anymore right now because I have to get to lab...

Ariel

P.S. Also the chick is always represented as the one girl that can put up with Puck's badassness and see through his shit. Are the characters really that similar or is this just a necessary quality for a woman who's going to be with "the Pukerone"?

SO, fellow watchers-of-Glee/sellouts-like-me, thoughts? Anyone else notice these trends in Puck fic? Anyone more familiar with the first nine episodes than I am want to let me know what we see of Puck's character? PLEASE, DISCUSS.

Mulan/Shang is better than Tiana/Naveen because Tiana and Naveen only sing and dance. Mulan and Shang sing and kick ass with kung-fu. Be a man!

Same.

And I love your second comment as well. Ditto.

Castle relies on being totally awesome. (And Nathan Fillion of course.) Even if the two "main" characters had no chemistry together (which I think they do, if mostly because they're having so much fun), it would still be fine when everybody is so awesome. :) If they'd had this kind of character interaction and sheer fun for The Dresden Files, it would have been the great show it could have been instead of a flop.

Glee has been watchable? I may have to try again. I'd given up.

well they have chemistry as actors, just not in a sexual way. The few episodes I've watched have made me desperately want them to be best friends and nothing more. And the rest of my iffy feelings stem from the fact that I can only handle so many cop shows at a time, and Bones had already hooked me by then.

These past two episodes have been much, much better than the first nine episodes, of which I have seen, like, four. The last one, while oddly put together, still had some really, really good scenes.

also I am a sellout. (I console myself by wincing whenever they start singing. Why, AutoTune, why?)

Attack of the Clones was on TV yesterday . . . I just remembered what true lack of chemistry is like. :(

Considering my list of things I try to watch is pretty much: Bones, Castle, NCIS White Collar, Leverage, House, Chuck, and Stargate Universe, I don't seem to have much trouble with watching too many shows of similar types. I love Bones to pieces, but I also love Castle to pieces and the shows have very different character dynamics and senses of humor so I don't feel like I'm watching more of the same at all. The writers on Bones are nuts! They've been purposely tackling plots that would be shark-jumpers for anyone else just to show they can. I joked a bit ago that all they needed to do at this point was have a body found in Sea World and have Bones and Brennan at the Shark Encounter where the walkway goes under the sharks . . . and then the next episode was set in an aquarium! ;D

I saw most of the Glee episodes before the break and then one and a half after the break. I started getting a bit annoyed that they kept on focusing on the same boring plotlines and the same two or three couples, when it's got such a strong ensemble cast and a lot of the ignored characters were so much more interesting. (And I'm not a big enough fan to look for fic.) Also, it felt like it was going the way of Ugly Betty really really fast.

I'm totally with you on the "Why, autotune, why?

Firstly, I agree that Mulan/Shang pwns because honestly they are just better and they bicker more (which clearly means they like each other more) and really, although Tiana/Naveen was nice, I feel like it went too quickly and there just wasn't enough time for their relationship to develop enough to be believable. AND Naveen is a womanizer, and I'm not okay with that. Shang has some dignity.

Also, on the topic of Glee, um I pretty much caught up with what's been going on since early April on my lovely IMDB...and I'm sort of like wtf, I mean...i'm really not okay with this Will thing. He's being an idiot. I'm okay with Emma, but WILL? And wtf, IDINA MENZEL was on and that made me happy except for randomly making out with Will...and oh, yeah, I'm NOT NOT NOT OKAY with Jesse. Sorry. I'm a Finn/Rachel lover. Jesse seems too good to be true. What I don't get is how she was so freaky and obsessive when dating Finn but we don't get a lot of that with Jesse...I don't know. Also...Puck hasn't been getting a lot of time lately...I don't know, he's there but not nearly as important. Ohh...and Kurt being all "let me set up my dad and Finn's mom because OH THEY HAVE DEAD SPOUSES AND I SECRETLY HAVE A CRUSH ON FINN" was a bit awkward but I think it's sweet that Finn has a father figure in his life now. Honestly, I'm not a huge Glee fan but I have been procrastinating (four more days of senior year left XD) and that was something available to watch at my leisure. So yeah. Let me know what you think...

Mulan and Shang bicker maybe once? Except not even that much? Come on. I love them too, but as Ariel points out, they had about the twenty minutes between figuring out Mulan was a girl and the Emperor being like GO GET HER ALREADY. I mean okay, Mulan had a crush on Shang for a while, but anything Shang felt would've been in that awkward "but but I've never been attracted to dudes BEFORE" category that just makes people uncomfortable. And by people I mean Shang. I will give you the womanizer thing, but one of the aspects of Naveen I love is that they went into the whole "he doesn't know how to do anything because it was always done for him" and yes, you may argue that he could have tried to learn how to do things anyway, but would he even know what those things are?

(it is something I consider important to remember, when dealing with feminist criticism, that society causes problems for everyone, and sometimes it's not entirely the guy's fault, either.)

ANYWAY as for Glee, I'm kind of ignoring Will's storyline until they decide to leave him single. And have him move in with Sue so they can be fighting bestie roommates. Because I will watch that show so hard. I like how Rachel is calm with Jesse because they actually have a "real" (or at least he's doing a damn good job on his end) relationship, rather than her obsessive-compulsive take on Finn. Which, maybe once this is over, she'll be more normal in her approach to Finn. And I wish Puck had more scenes. And I agree about Finn and Kurt's parents--also I was really excited they acted like ADULTS. And I totally understand watching Glee from procrastination. As previously noted, I am a total sellout for caring at all. :-b

Ehhh, okay fine fine fine, I get it about the bickering thing. I guess their situation is so awkward that I love it and think they're brilliant together. Although I'm not sure if they would have fallen in love if they both hadn't been fighting in the same war and all the obnoxious gender confusion happened and whatnot. But at the same time you could argue that falling in love comes down to a ton of factors like time and place and mood...you could say the same about Tiana and Naveen, I guess. So I agree with you, to a point. Naveen is nice, really, he's definitely up there on my Disney list of awesome guys, but Shang has a very special place in my heart. Dude, I fell in love with him at age six. Anyways, I also agree with you about feminist criticism--society has lots of issues, primarily as a result of society itself.

Sue and Will would be awesome roommates. Although...the Madonna episode was a little strange? I don't usually feel sympathy for Sue, but I was...kind of sympathizing with her. Kind of. I like the idea of ignoring Will until he's single. The man is too freaking confused to do much with his life other than run the Glee club.

Also, caring about Glee is easier than caring about the more serious things. Not that the serious things aren't important, but even the best of us need a break sometimes from the heavy stuffs :)

Ah, I understand Shang being your first love. I think Phillip was mine. These things stay with us for a long time. (I think one can safely say, though, that Naveen is perhaps one of the few princes who is just as important in the movie as the princess.)

Aw, I kind of love Sue. She's insane, but at the same time you get the feeling her life as a child was insane. And she even has feelings! Even if she routinely ignores them. :-b

Yes, I understand completely. :-)

I don't read Glee fics so I can't talk about trends, but as far as the character goes, I can actually kind of see that. Puck might be the biggest physical bully of the Gleeks (I'm thinking Quinn beats him hands down in the emotional/psychological bullying, or at least she did back when she was on top of her game and not randomly playing mommy to half the cast), but I feel like it's just something to do for him, whereas Quinn deliberately chooses her victims and her words are meant to hurt them specifically. If that makes sense? I was about to say that Puck's bullying is more about maintaining an image, but it's not even that because that would imply he cares about the way others perceive him - which I actually guess could be true, given how upset he was re: Quinn's Lima loser comment, but that might also be because he cares about her specifically. I am rambling POINT BEING, Puck just goes around throwing kids into dumpsters because it's the thing to do and he's bored and he can and he doesn't really seem to think about it too much. And the thing about Puck "letting the girl be who she wants to be" is really just Puck not caring. It doesn't matter if you're loud and obnoxious or a self-righteous bitch or get your entire wardrobe from Hot Topic because he's the last person in the world who should be judging anyone, and he knows that, so he doesn't. It's not accepting, exactly, just kind of letting things be, maybe because he just doesn't care (especially if he's getting some from a reasonably attractive girl) or maybe because he recognizes that in himself and in others. I don't know. I feel like Puck is accepting, but his version of accepting isn't an active sort of accepting (which is funny because he seems like an active sort of guy in general) rather than just seeing things for the way they are and being able to deal with it, instead of trying to fix it or improve it or pretend to be in a musical where you can just sing all your problems away, like everyone else in the cast. Dear God, this made sense in my head, I swear, but I've been hopped up on cough syrup all week.

Basically what I really wanted to say was I actually ended up reading that fic and holy shit am I kind of in love with it. It kind of makes me think of what my writing style wants to be, with the present tense and snarky asides and Capitalization For Emphasis, except it's actually well-written.

i think i need a puck icon

YES her writing actually really reminds me of yours. I am like, "hey, someone who writes like Colleen!" And then I forget to remind you that your writing is better than you think it is. It just needs a good editor to help you pare it down.

as for your giant paragraph of awesome and win, WORD.
