I think I begin to understand why poets write love poems and lovers write letters and how they seem to contain such ridiculous effusions because in reality they are honest effusions and love is silly but true.

that is not why I am making this post.

I am making this post because this morning I went to morning prayer at church, and the priest read the homily from today's Office of Readings, and I wanted to post it here for people to see. If Holy Thursday is Christ in the Garden and Good Friday is Christ on the Cross, then Holy Saturday is Christ in the tomb, and that always struck me as a sad empty thing--the Lord is no longer on earth but nor is he in heaven; he descended to the dead.

And then he read this homily to us, and I realized that even in our earthly emptiness, for one day there is joy in hell:

From an ancient homily on Holy Saturday
The Lord descends into hell

Okay y'all for those of you who are interested I swear I am working on a post about last week. Really. It's coming. I just--have to work out how to word things. And try to determine how much kissing to talk about. (I love kissing. It is AWESOME. And now I miss it muchly.) (Here: tell me what y'all want to hear about, that will help.)

In the meantime, two things! One is a meme from [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja from a couple weeks back, in which I am supposed to post about five things and if you comment with a bang bang or something I'll ask you about five things and anyway, her five things for me were

In honor of International Women's Day: Name a female character I have ever written (or even one you know I happen to like or find interesting) and I will attempt a drabble/ficlet about her.

If you give me a hint, theme, keyword, lyric, etc., I will use it if it sparks something for me.

(this includes all my fandoms, even the ones I don't really participate in per se, as well as original characters like Nell and Henny and Thaddie.) (I can provide a more comprehensive list but right now I am OH MY GODing in a chat window with Leen so, uh, I'm going to go back to that.)

Edna St. Vincent Millay

We talk of taxes, and I call you friend;
Well, such you are, — but well enough we know
How thick about us root, how rankly grow
Those subtle weeds no man has need to tend,
That flourish through neglect, and soon must send
Perfume too sweet upon us and overthrow
Our steady senses; how such matters go
We are aware, and how such matters end.
Yet shall be told no meagre passion here;
With lovers such as we forevermore
Isolde drinks the draught, and Guinevere
Receives the Table's ruin through her door,
Francesca, with the loud surf at her ear,
Lets fall the coloured book upon the floor.

Those Who Love
Sara Teasdale

Those who love the most,
Do not talk of their love,
Francesca, Guinevere,
Deirdre, Iseult, Heloise,
In the fragrant gardens of heaven
Are silent, or speak if at all
Of fragile, inconsequent things.

And a woman I used to know
Who loved one man from her youth,
Against the strength of the fates
Fighting in somber pride,
Never spoke of this thing,
But hearing his name by chance,
A light would pass over her face.

and now they're making a movie out of The Eagle of the Ninth, by Rosemary Sutcliff?

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING?

I feel like this trailer gives a lot away; you could also watch the thirty-second spot and get just as much of an idea of what's going on.

I just want all of her books to be made into beautiful historical action movies.

You guys, I have like forty questions. And they are all ridiculous and only half are in the format I was expecting and, just, I HOPE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU.

I left out a few “write a story” prompts because I am now sick and did not feel like going back and filling those in. So I will do that later.

So first, the character list!

1. Severus Snape, potions professor, Harry Potter
2. Toph Bei Fong, twelve-year-old blind earthbending master, Avatar: The Last Airbender
3. Ged, archmage and thief, Earthsea
4. Han Solo, smuggler and general, Star Wars
5. Attolia, queen of the country and also woman named Irene, Queen’s Thief
6. Lucy Honeychurch, young lady and piano player, A Room with a View
7. Holly Short, elf LEPrecon captain, Artemis Fowl
8. Jayne Cobb, muscleman and sniper, Firefly
9. Kyouya Ootori, high school junior and shadow king, Ouran
10. Britomart, cross-dressing female knight, The Faerie Queene
11. Alistair Theirin, Warden and bastard prince, Dragon Age
12. Noah Puckerman, ladies’ man with a sweet voice, Glee
13. Scarlett O'Hara, lady and businesswoman, Gone with the Wind
14. Bishop, ranger and scout, Neverwinter Nights 2
and a fandom repeat,
15. The Cabbage Man, a merchant, Avatar: The Last Airbender

Expandseriously, Nessa? Seriously? )

Well, that was exhaustingly fun. I hope you enjoyed!
jade_sabre: (harthdarth: good on the inside)
but whatevs it's the weekend (practically) (seriously tomorrow our trainer canceled so we have like three hours with our supervisor and then free pizza lunch and then we're out) and so I feel like celebrating:

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your friends to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?' 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?' 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?' 'Write a story in which three and eleven fight crime.' (...possibly not technically a question.)

3) After your friends have asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.
jade_sabre: (s&s: elinor writing)
if I get through tomorrow I will be HALFWAY THERE maybe I will make a better post then.

I want to talk about something fandom-y! I am like three chapters away from finishing The Farthest Shore and the chapter I ended on today ended with Series Main Character mentioning wanting to see Book Two Main Character and I squealed like a little girl in the (empty) teacher's lounge because I love them that much. SO MUCH. (People on the plane with me while I was reading Book Two: I am still really sorry about that.)

Glee doesn't come back until next week! To keep watching to see if Puckleberry makes a comeback y/n.

My DA big bang fic is stalled at 1600 words, about 600 of which are going to have to change because as Jak pointed out clearly this moment comes after Darin offers Gorim to Masha and he gets really pissed off, so I have to come up with another way for her to convince him to let her meet Masha in the first place without her ordering him to do it. Maybe if it is early enough in their relationship she just bullies him into it? As they get to know each other better he becomes more resolute (and, I think, she understands his convictions better).

My main problem really seems to be that I have two story lines and I need to plot them out separate and then figure out where they link up, because we have flashbacks and then we have the present, and I can't decide if the present will be in present tense or not. Also the flashback really has two storylines of its own, but I think the whole fic is from Gorim's POV (what, me writing about the stalwart bodyguard type? Never...), which will present challenges of its own. Basically we have the ascension of a queen against the backdrop of the developments of a badass friendship and a deeply suppressed romance; what pieces of the backdrop do we need, and when?

WELL that was helpful.

My choir is doing more Handel! I love Handel.

I watched Ever After last week. Danielle and the prince kiss very sweetly. Also, that movie reminds me of my 2008 NaNo, and not just because of the Cinderella stuff--France (specifically, I think, the Loire region) permeates both of them, and watching the movie/rereading the manuscript (oh God it needs so much help) (well not really plot-wise, but individual sentences need so much attention) (never mind that I still haven't written part two because--and okay, maybe here the plot does need help--the whole thing is about Nell's development from where she starts to where it ends? [This sounds like a duh statement.] But I'm not sure how to carry that thread from the first part [a fairy-tale retelling, less obviously about Nell] to the second part [which is about marriage and therefore not really your normal YA fare at all] [maybe I should just change the whole novel from being YA] [but she's so young in the beginning!] [well, so was David Copperfield] [you begin to see my problems, I think] [OH I should reread Spindle's End and see how Robin McKinley does it] [I will reread Earthsea when I want to write Ariadne] [MC, what's that fellowship with the whole year-in-Rome thing?] [I forget what I was originally talking about])...oh, I see. Watching the movie/reading the manuscript makes me miss France like WHOA.

but then I am missing lots of things.

moving on.

Oh look! I have made it to shower time, and even worked a few things out along the way. Success!

So I am posting this here because, well, I'm fond of it, and you know one day years down the line I'll be being interviewed about the Ariadne novel and I can say, well, you know, I sort of played around with the ideas in the novel in an immature form when I was much younger and writing a fanfic from a fanartist's idea and the interviewer will be confused and I will just keep chatting away merrily like nothing's wrong.

If the font here is too small, you can always hit ctrl and +/= at the same time and that will make the font bigger. You can also read it over at my fanfiction.net page, where there's a handy button for you to change font sizes.

And as always, reviews are welcome.

Title: From Order, Chaos

Author: Jade Sabre

Summary: When Hades finally frees himself from the river of death, he discovers an unexpected visitor in his abode with revenge on her mind and sorrow in her heart. A Meg/Hades fic, of a sort.

Notes: So I read the summary of the fanart "Megara: She Needs a Gyro" by steevinlove over at DeviantArt, and decided to fic it. Or perhaps its prequel.

That I have furthered bastardized the already bastard mythology of the film, I freely admit; I have taken the pieces I needed, acknowledged that this is an AU of Disney's AU, and put things together as I thought they might fit. My apologies to any and all fans of Greek mythology and history in general; I include myself in this apology. I also apologize to Rick Riordan, because I borrowed one of his ideas, and his meticulously researched and perfectly presented works shouldn't wallow in the mud I've made of the primordial waters.

I also shouldn't be allowed to write author's notes again, ever.

Dedication: To my dear Ariel, who showed me the picture in the first place, who not only indulges but encourages my love of all things Disney, and who is pretty much one of the strongest, sweetest people I've ever met, even when she's being sassy. Merry Christmas, dear. 3

Disclaimer: I do not own the specific iteration of the Herculean myth from which I borrowed the characters you find in this fic.

OH OH OH I FINISHED ARIEL'S CHRISTMAS PRESENT but I can't share it with y'all yet because she hasn't read it I am THE MOST IMPATIENT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN stupid houses with no internet. BUT I THINK IT TURNED OUT OKAY I mention this also because like I have two more plot bunnies alongside the two I still have to write alongside the OTHER two I still have to write and they are all Dragon Age fic. Anyway we haven't unlocked Office on this computer because I hate Office 2010 with a fiery passion and just want my Word 2007 or whatever installed. Whichever one doesn't involve those stupid tabs at the top. This might seem neurotic, but you know, some people have to have unlined paper, others have to have fancy pens, some people like their netbooks, I want my old Word back. IT'S PART OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS, OKAY. I WANT TIMES NEW ROMAN, SINGLE-SPACED, NO STUPID GAPS BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS, THAT IS ONLY FOR THE INTERNET.

oh my goodness, first world problems.

There has been a lot of Bailey's in my life over the past say half of a week, so...lakhen? saba? thīke? IT WOULD HELP IF I KNEW HOW TO SPELL THESE WORDS. I will be back to you with the proper spelling. I'm 90% sure it ends with "saba thīka hai." (Anyone on my flist speak Hindi? Anyone?) (Apparently the alphabet is really easy to learn?) (This is one of my goals in life.)

I think it is time for a new layout. Suggestions? Themes it would make you happy to see every time you wandered over to my journal? I'M TAKING THEM.
